How Are Lumineers® Better Than Regular Veneers?

If you’ve grown tired of greeting the world with a less than lovely smile, Lumineers® may be your answer. They can cover tooth imperfections and discoloration with minimal disruption to your tooth enamel compared to regular veneers.

Adam Nusblatt, DMD and the expert team at Nusblatt Dental in the East Village of Manhattan, New York, can boost your smile from ordinary to beaming in practically no time at all. Here’s what you need to know about how Lumineers are better than traditional veneers.

Why Lumineers?

Dr. Nusblatt and his team provide very thin porcelain shells called Lumineers to fit over the surface of your teeth. Affixed to your natural teeth, these shells help cover:

Because Lumineers generally require little or no grinding of your tooth enamel, Dr. Nusblatt prepares impressions of your teeth painlessly and without anesthesia. He then sends them to the lab to create custom Lumineers that transform your less than perfect teeth into pearly whites.

What are veneers?

Traditional veneers, made of porcelain or composite resin, are also thin shells that cover your teeth; however, unlike Lumineers, your dentist has to remove some of your tooth enamel before bonding them to your teeth. Getting veneers, an irreversible procedure, can be painful and time-consuming. Composite resin veneers are less expensive but more easily damaged than porcelain.

In 1928, Hollywood dentist Charles Pincus invented veneers to improve the look of film actors’ teeth — from Judy Garland to Shirley Temple. Fast-forward to the 21st century, when DenMat simplified the procedure, creating ultra-thin, removable Lumineers out of porcelain that fit perfectly over damaged teeth.

Lumineers vs. traditional veneers

Lumineers require less time, discomfort, and expense than veneers. Veneers are also a permanent solution — your dentist can’t remove traditional veneers because your original teeth are compromised to make room for them in your mouth. Veneers also require the use of acrylic temporaries before your dentist places the permanent veneers.

Lumineers, on the other hand, can be removed whenever you desire. They last up to two decades and can be easily replaced at that time. Because your tooth enamel usually isn’t altered before your Lumineers come back from the lab, you won’t need temporary veneers while you wait. The entire process is far simpler than regular veneers.

The Lumineers procedure

Dr. Nusblatt and his team fashion your Lumineers as follows:

  1. Make impressions of your teeth
  2. Create molds for the lab
  3. Choose the perfect shade that blends seamlessly with all of your teeth

Once your custom Lumineers return from the lab, Dr. Nusblatt checks their fit and size before bonding them painlessly to the surface of your teeth.

Thin as a contact lens, Lumineers offer a great solution for unsightly teeth. Call Nusblatt Dental at 212-651-1605 or schedule an appointment online today to find out how Lumineers can give you a great reason to smile.
